Compact Ruggedized (Cr) Series Lenses

Ruggedized to Minimize Pixel Shift After Shock and Vibration

Optics Glued in Place to Maintain Optical Pointing Stability

Simplified Focus with Wide Range of Aperture Options

Mechanics Featuring Stainless Steel Locking C-Mount Clamp

TECHSPEC® Compact Ruggedized (Cr) Series Fixed Focal Length Lenses, which are the Stability Ruggedized versions of our C Series Fixed Focal Length Lenses are carefully designed to maintain optical pointing in demanding environments involving vibrations, shocks, and temperature changes. These Stability Ruggedized lenses feature robust mechanics with a simplified focus and stainless steel locking C-mount clamp. The individual lens elements are glued in place inside the barrel to prevent decenter, eliminating object shift on the image and ensuring that the object-image mapping remains constant. A point on the object will always map to the same point on your image even if the lens has been heavily vibrated. TECHSPEC® Cr Series Fixed Focal Length Lenses are ideal for calibrated imaging systems such as measurement and gauging, 3D stereo vision, robotics and sensing, autonomous vehicles, and object tracking.

Cr Series Advantages

STANDARD IMAGING LENS
Ruggedized Lenses Line Art
Pixel shift occurs when an imaging system is exposed to shock and vibration. As the imaging system shakes, the image produced on the camera sensor also shakes, causing the image to shift onto different pixels each time. Pixel shift is caused by the lens elements decentering inside the lens barrel as the imaging system shakes, causing the object to shift on the image. In the image above, you can see the blue lens elements move inside the lens barrel and how the image moves on the sensor.
STABILITY RUGGEDIZED Cr SERIES LENS
Ruggedized Lenses Line Art
Pixel shift is minimized in the Stability Ruggedized Cr Series Lenses compared to standard imaging lenses. As the imaging system shakes from shock and vibration, the lens elements inside remain stationary inside the lens barrel; as a result, the image remains stationary. Because the individual lens elements are glued in place, object shift on the image is eliminated. In the image above, view how the blue lens elements remain stationary inside the lens barrel and how the image does not move on the sensor.

FAQs

What type of ruggedization are the Cr Series lenses?
The Cr Series lenses are Stability Ruggedized with each lens element glued in place to maintain optical pointing and minimize pixel shift after heavy shock and vibration.
Where can I find more information on the various types of ruggedization?
You can find more information on Stability, Industrial, and Ingress Protection Ruggedization in our Ruggedization of Imaging Lenses application note.
My application requires different specifications than those listed for the Cr Series lenses. Are custom options available?
Yes, Edmund Optics® has a staff of experienced optical and mechanical designers, along with world class manufacturing, to support prototypes and deliver the lens you require for your application. For more information, please contact our Technical Support Engineers.
I’m currently using a different Edmund Optics’ imaging lens. Can you ruggedize my lens?
Yes, we can ruggedize the lens and also do a number of other modifications such housing modification, working distance adjustment, filter or liquid lens integration, aperture replacement, and more. For more information, please contact our Technical Support Engineers.
Are Zemax prescription files available for the Cr Series lenses?
Yes, please submit a prescription request and one of our Technical Support Engineers will contact you.

Different Types of Ruggedization

TECHSPEC® Cr Series Fixed Focal Length Lenses are Stability Ruggedized. However, there are many other types of ruggedization such as Ingress Protection and Industrial Ruggedization. Different machine vision applications such as factory automation, industrial inspection, biomedical instruments, and robotics will require a different type of ruggedized imaging lens. Imaging lenses for these demanding environments often have special requirements beyond those of standard lenses as these situations often involve shocks, vibrations, contaminants, and temperature changes. No one type of ruggedization is the best option for all scenarios, therefore each application and environment should be reviewed independently.
