Ingress protection is a style of ruggedization that protects imaging lenses and other industrial components from ingress, or entry, of various types of solid particles and liquids that may cause internal damage or diminish performance. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) provides testing methods and semi-quantitative, semi-qualitative certifications for the several different types of ingress protection a component offers.
