
The Edmund Optics Florida Laser Optics Center Manufactures a wide range of optical components with high laser damage threshold and laser crystal coatings from the UV to the far IR. This expands Edmund Optics’ laser optics manufacturing capabilities across crystal and glass fabrication, polishing, metrology, high laser damage threshold and diamond-like carbon coatings, inspection, and testing. The Florida Laser Optics Center's 34,000 sq. ft (3,159 m2) facility, located outside of Tampa, FL, is home to approximately 50 employees, many of whom are laser optics experts.
Depositing coatings with a high laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) requires advanced process control and monitoring of manufacturing parameters, including cleanliness and coating repeatability. A continuous industry push towards higher-power lasers makes LIDT increasingly important for laser optics. The Edmund Optics Florida Laser Optics Center’s superior and proven high LIDT coating capabilities, combined with in-house LIDT testing, ensure that the optics you receive can meet your application’s demanding LIDT requirements.
Laser crystals function as gain media for solid-state laser sources. They are typically doped with rare earth or transition metal ions, which amplify the laser light through stimulated emission. Non-linear laser crystals are used for frequency conversion of laser sources. The Edmund Optics Florida Laser Optics Center has the capabilities to both polish and coat laser crystals in a wide variety of materials. Their precision polishing improves coating adhesion, which minimizes losses and increases LIDT.
Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings feature properties similar to natural diamonds like hardness and stress and corrosion resistance. They offer high transmission in the infrared (IR) and are ideal for harsh environment IR applications requiring anti-reflective coatings. They are often used in defense applications and applications that might expose the coatings to potential scratches, contamination, and stress.
